Could you please introduce yourself and share a bit more about your journey as a streamer?
I started using YouTube back in 2017. I chose a very chill hunting game to try to build a channel around. I quickly grew that to a few thousand subscribers and have been trying to keep that going ever since. Furthermore, I had a weekly livestream every Sunday night where I was playing for a few hours and then just tried to keep regular content going out for my game. The big shift for me as a streamer came by the end of 2018 when I decided to give streaming on Twitch a try. In May 2019, I was able to get the channel partnered on Twitch. I managed to grow the channel to a point where I could use the rest of my savings to take a few more months off before having to go back to work. That to this day has still not happened, and I have been a full-time streamer/content creator since then, with the last few years switching from a one game streamer into a variety streamer. Nowadays, my average view count usually sits in the 40-60 viewer range. So definitely not the biggest, but I have made it work, and Streamloots for the last few years has been critical to this!
How has Streamloots impacted your streams and the way you create and monetize your content?
Streamloots for me has honestly been a godsend. I’ve always had very loud sound alerts on my streams, which some people love, some people hate, but most people love to see the fear in my face whenever I get a loud boom, knocking on the door, etc. The community was used to the idea of the viewers “messing with me” so adapting to Streamloots was very easy. The biggest thing that you have to realize when using Streamloots is that interactions such as “Hands up”, “Choose my loadout” or “Alt + F4” can be played at any time, and you’re no longer in control of your stream. Your viewers ultimately have the power to decide when enough is enough, etc. As long as you can embrace the struggles that come with “annoying” interactions, there are many laughs to enjoy by silly moments occurring due to someone playing the right card at the right time. They get to have a lot of fun with their cards and when partnered with Streamloots you get to keep 90% of the money. It has just been easier to make sure that the bills get paid every month and your audience is able to spend 40% less (compared to gifted subs on Twitch) to give you the same amount of support.
How has your use of Streamloots evolved since you first started with us? In terms of tweaking cards, collections, ways of interacting with you, etc.
The use of Streamloots has been very gradual. I started out with a few basic cards and as soon as people adapted, I started asking the community what they would like to see. A few months into it, my good friend and graphic designer asked if he could help me make my cards look nicer. From that point on, he has basically been in charge of updating, creating new cards and making sure everything works. Whenever the viewers have good ideas, they’ll go to him, and we’ll look into creating something new. Huge shoutout to my man Cervus__! Couldn’t have been this successful without him!
After all, my purpose is to make viewers smile and I will never be the best at the games I play anyway, so ultimately I try to give them the most fun and engaging experience they can find. It’s certainly not for everyone to not be able to watch gameplay for an extended amount of time. I might all of a sudden have to go draw something up in paint with my very limited artistic skills, but it’s fun for the people who do enjoy seeing me struggle.
What tips would you give to a new Streamloots user?
The thing that I have seen have the best impact on the communities I have introduced Streamloots to, has been: “Don’t be afraid to give them packs for free”
You can use channel points to redeem packs and gift users, or you can even set up coupons, so your viewers can go and redeem packs on Streamloots. When I started, I found it to be very important to get your community accustomed to cards. However, when cards start to flow steadily, and you see them frequently on the stream, it seems to come pretty naturally and viewers can head over to Streamloots and choose packs of their liking. Don’t be afraid to start with “cheap packs” you can always adjust the prices down the line if you see them messing up your game too much, or if it’s simply becoming a big part of your stream. You can always balance that out later on. I’ve also had some of my regular viewers gift packs to the community to get new people introduced to the platform.
What implementations have you applied in Streamloots that led you to better performance as well as more community engagement?
I always try to come up with new cards that could be fun to implement. These ideas mostly come from the community, but I think it just comes down to accepting that you are not in control of everything on your stream. Sometimes random cool moments simply appear because someone has the right card at the right time. I know this won’t work for everyone, but if your community is there for you and not the game you play exclusively, it quickly finds a balance between gameplay and entertainment.
How have you managed to get your community more involved and supportive with you on Streamloots, assuming that at first they were used to supporting you on Twitch?
This one is actually pretty simple. Have cards that are worth playing. If you have good cards that viewers love to see played, they will want to see them once in a while. I have always had a lot of different sound alerts for bits and such, but none of them are as intrusive as a “mute the streamer for 1 min” or “ALT + F4” and those can only be obtained via Streamloots. I’ve always been very open about the best ways to support my content. Not only that, but I tell my community that if they want the majority of their support to go towards me, then they can do it via Streamloots, as it’s unmatched.
Are there any special moments that you’ve had with your community while using Streamloots? If so, please share some clips with us!
I love to play hunting games on my stream, and one of the worst cards you can play when you are hunting and find an awesome animal trophy, is the “Can’t Pick Up” card. Which means I can’t loot the animal, and basically just disappears forever. This is especially hard when you have something really cool on the ground that you can’t wait to get into your trophy lodge. But if the community says no…
What’s the card that your community currently enjoys the most?
Realistic Knocking is definitely a fan favorite and gets used a lot! Swapping my headphones to be the wrong side certainly has to be another one, too. And everyone loves a good old “Alt + F4”
Do you have any card that you feel especially proud of?
I don’t think it’s any specific card on its own, but rather the combinations that viewers sometimes come up with. For example, they know I will get mad when they play an “Alt + F4”, but then they follow it with a “Mute me for 60 seconds” card. I can sit there looking at a dark screen in silence and regret everything in my life, while chat is losing it as they think it’s hilarious.
